Occupational / Computer Progressive Lenses

These lenses are designed for people who need clear vision at more than one near working distance, such as reading documents and viewing a computer screen. They are ideal for desk-based work, standing workstations, and mixed near-to-intermediate tasks.

Unlike traditional multifocals, these lenses are line-free and provide a much wider usable field of view for near and intermediate distances. The design reduces the amount of focusing effort (accommodation) required at screen distance, helping the eyes remain relaxed throughout the day.

How They Help

Occupational progressive lenses are optimised for ergonomics and comfort, rather than long-distance vision. They help to:

  • - Reduce eye strain and blurred vision
  • - Minimise neck and shoulder tension caused by poor posture
  • - Eliminate the need to tilt the head to find a clear zone
  • - Provide stable, comfortable vision at desk and screen distances

⚠️ Warning: These lenses are not suitable for driving, especially at night.

Lens Design Categories

Lower Support Designs

Intended for students and younger adults. The power change is gradual, offering gentle support while the eyes still contribute to focusing.

Higher Support Designs

Intended for early presbyopes and older users (50+). The lens provides most of the focusing power, significantly reducing visual fatigue.

Adaptation Period

A short adaptation period is normal. You may notice mild peripheral blur or a slight “swim” sensation during quick head movements. These effects usually resolve within a few days.

Pro Tip: Point your nose toward what you want to see and move your chin slightly up or down rather than moving closer or further away from the screen.

Materials & Refractive Index

Choosing the right material ensures your glasses are lightweight and durable:

  • - CR-39: Cost-effective with excellent optical clarity.
  • - Polycarbonate: Highly impact-resistant and lighter than standard plastic.
  • - Trivex: Superior optics with high impact resistance and very low weight.

The refractive index (e.g., CR-39: 1.498 to High-index: 1.74) determines thickness. Higher index lenses are thinner but reflect more light, making anti-reflective coatings essential.

Recommended Coatings

Anti-Reflective (AR) Coating

Reduces glare and ghost images, improving clarity and appearance.

Blue Control Coating

Filters harmful blue light to reduce digital eye strain and improve contrast.

UV & Scratch Protection

Blocks harmful radiation and ensures long-term lens durability.

Comfortable vision and good working ergonomics are too important to leave to chance. Regular eye exams save sight.
